The ERC was honoured to welcome acclaimed Canadian artist IAIN BAXTER& at the Bluecoat, Liverpool, for an illustrated talk on his extraordinary career, from his pivotal role in the 1960s and 1970s conceptual art scene in Vancouver to his more recent ecologically-minded works.
IAIN BAXTER& (born Middlesborough, 1936) studied zoology and fine art before founding the mythical N.E. Thing Co. in 1966, an artistic company active until 1978. Among N.E. Thing Co.’s achievements are a number of major exhibitions and a fully operational restaurant called Eye Scream. A large-scale retrospective of BAXTER&’s work was held in 2012 at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. BAXTER& is Professor Emeritus at the University of Windsor and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He lives in Windsor, Ontario with his wife and collaborator Louise Chance BAXTER&.
